Celebrating Pi Day with a Memory Challenge at School

Hi, I'm Pratibha, and I recently had the pleasure of organizing a memorable Pi Day event at our school, combining the magic of mathematics with the power of memory.

For those unfamiliar, Pi (π) is a fascinating mathematical constant. It's the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159... and going on infinitely without repeating. Pi Day, celebrated every March 14 (3/14), is a day dedicated to this remarkable number and the joy of learning.

As someone who has won several medals in national and state-level memory championships across India, I’m passionate about memory training and sharing those skills with others. I also founded the Memory Club at our school, a space where students explore memory techniques and unlock their cognitive potential.

To prepare for the event, the Memory Club organized training sessions where we introduced participants to memory techniques such as the Major System, a method to convert numbers into images—making it easier to remember long digit sequences.

We began with 107 enthusiastic students, who participated in preliminary rounds. Through a series of eliminations, we narrowed the group to 75, and eventually to the final 40 contestants who took on the ultimate Pi memorization challenge.

The event banner was meticulously designed to highlight the school's memory club, Pi day and the digits of Pi.

We got a few of our students to arrange themselves in the shape of Pi to create awareness about this fascinating number.

It was inspiring to see the dedication and focus of every participant. Some students were able to recall hundreds of digits of Pi with stunning accuracy! The event went smoothly, and the school management was very supportive, encouraging and appreciating the initiative.

The score card looked like this. It's amazing to see 398 digits being recalled just with a few weeks of effort.

At the end, we celebrated the winners by awarding medals and trophies to those who demonstrated exceptional memory skills. It was truly rewarding to see the excitement and sense of achievement on everyone's faces.

This Pi Day was more than just a celebration of a number—it was a celebration of learning, discipline, and the limitless potential of the human brain. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this event a success and look forward to hosting many more memory-based challenges in the future!

Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly ❤︎

Hello world!  This is my first post. I want to share my thoughts on the book 'Song for a Whale' by Lynne Kelly. I really like this book because it teaches you the power of determination and persistence. A deaf girl named Iris is a tech genius. She loves to fix things. One day her teacher Ms. Alamilla showed her a video about a whale lost in the waters with no one to talk to. Iris wanted the whale to be reunited with his family. So Iris works out a meticulous plan to work with the sanctuary but that wasn't enough. She works with them but they ignore her efforts. So, she and her grandma boarded a cruise and helped the whale get tagged by the sanctuary.
